Mark Dixon on cash flow, catalysts and communication

Mark Dixon, founder and CEO of office space provider Regus, explains why the downturn has acted like a cleansing fire for the business world.

He comments: “Companies that come out of this recession will come out of it transformed as much more efficient businesses. This recession will shake away the cobwebs of the last 40 to 50 years of easy-option business practices.”

He continues: “Don’t get me wrong. We are also being affected. It is hurting our margins. We are very focused now on the basics of our business. Our focus is on cashflow. We have little time for anything else at the moment.”

“But we’ve not only got to fight the recession, we’ve got to get rehabilitated. We’ve vowed to leave the emergency ward and not go back.”

It is strange to think that a period of economic downturn would be the catalyst to make businesses more effective, but the measures which organisations are employing in current times are all aligned with cash flow and best practice and much stronger communication. It is an encouraging message to Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Businesses (SMEs) that these disciplines are being applied intelligently by companies seeking to emerge stronger and prosper.
